WordCamp Verona’s Contributor Day is open to anyone who wants to contribute to the WordPress open-source project!
Whether you’re brand new to WordPress or you’ve been contributing to Core for years; whether you’ve built a few sites or many; whether you work on design or SEO, accessibility or CSS and PHP—the Contributor Day is for you! It’s for anyone passionate about open source, and for those who want to help make the internet a better place, day by day.
How does the day work?
We’ll meet at Hotel San Marco on Friday, 10 October 2025. Check-in opens from 9:00, and table work will start at 10:00. If you arrive late, no worries: the reception will remain open and you can join any table even while work is in progress!
After a short introduction and a quick overview of all the teams present, we’ll split into different tables. You can stick with one table all day, choose one in the morning and another in the afternoon, or float between a few. You’re welcome to listen, observe, ask questions, and find the spot that suits you best.
Work at the various tables will continue throughout the day: there will always be someone explaining and someone listening; those with more experience might push certain tasks forward, while those with less experience can still take part, ask questions, and learn.
At the end of the day, we’ll recap what each table accomplished and say our goodbyes at around 17:00.
What to expect from Contributor Day
Expect to make lots of new friends! You’ll discover how the community functions and realize that even the smallest contribution matters. Expect to get your hands a little “dirty,” but always aligned with your interests and skills.
There’s plenty to do that—let’s be honest—has nothing to do with code! From translating, to organizing meetups, to running accessibility tests right in your browser…
Expect to spend a day with great people, to learn and explore new workflows, tools, and information, and to grow even more fond of WordPress and its community.
How to take part
What to bring

ACCESSIBILITY
The Accessibility team provides cross-project expertise in web accessibility to improve the accessibility of Core and all other available resources. Here you can learn about current issues, uncover new ones, run the group’s prepared accessibility tests, and share the results.
Do you care about making websites accessible on any type of device? Help us make WordPress and all its resources better from this perspective too. The Accessibility group is waiting for you!
Some of the group’s activities include:
- checking the accessibility of WordPress Core, both for new and existing components (there’s always room for improvement);
- reviewing the accessibility of WordPress.org sites;
- engaging other groups to collaborate on reaching accessibility goals.
The table lead will be: Stefano Minoia.
COMMUNITY
The Community team supports those who organize meetups and WordCamps, develops training and outreach programs, and coordinates special projects like WPCredits, which enables students and educational institutions to earn academic credits by contributing to WordPress.
At this table you can learn about the team’s work, how to kick off a local event, and how to participate in engagement programs such as WPCredits.
Some of the group’s activities include:
- supporting the organization of meetups and WordCamps;
- creating outreach and training programs;
- managing projects like WPCredits, which connects academic learning with open-source contribution;
- general support for contributors and community initiatives.
The table lead will be: Francesco Di Candia.
CORE
The Core development team writes and maintains the code that powers WordPress. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been developing for years or are just getting closer to the code! You can review or write code, report and fix bugs, join discussions, and help with development.
Can you write code? Are PHP, JavaScript, and HTML familiar to you? Have you found a bug and want to learn how to report it or propose a fix? The Core group is for you.
Some of the group’s activities include:
- improving Core (new features, performance, best practices, …);
- fixing Core bugs;
- testing code with PHPUnit;
- opening tickets for Core bugs or improvements;
- extending or improving documentation.
The table lead will be: Dennis Ploetner.
CORE AI
The Core AI team coordinates and accelerates activities related to integrating AI-based technologies into the project, focusing on responsible innovation aligned with WordPress values.
It’s a new team that, in the coming months and years, will contribute significantly to integrating AI within the WordPress ecosystem.
Join the table to learn what’s cooking, starting with the “AI Building Blocks for WordPress.”
The table lead will be: Marco Chiesi.
PLUGINS
Internationally, the Plugin Review team examines and approves every plugin submitted to the official WordPress repository to ensure compliance with the guidelines—but at the Contributor Day Plugins table, many other plugin-related activities take place.
This year in Verona you’ll be able to:
- ask experienced contributors what it takes to submit your plugin to the official directory;
- learn how to improve your plugin development skills and best practices;
- discover how to contribute to the project from a developer’s perspective.
There are many ways to contribute to the Plugins project—join this table to put your skills to the test or learn more.
The table lead will be: Enrico Battocchi.
POLYGLOTS (translations)
WordPress is used worldwide and in many different languages. The Polyglots team translates Core, plugins, themes, patterns, and the official wordpress.org websites. It also helps translate articles and resources from other groups to support their projects. You can contribute through translation, glossary discussions, or by creating tools that make the process easier for everyone.
Do you have a solid command of Italian and basic English? That’s more than enough to join the Polyglots team! The Translations group is waiting for you.
Some of the group’s activities include:
- translating plugins and themes in the official wordpress.org repository;
- translating the WordPress Core (e.g., the admin interface: dashboard screen, settings, …);
- translating key parts of wordpress.org to create the localized version at it.wordpress.org;
- translating the official WordPress apps for Android and iOS;
- helping other groups translate official documents.
The table lead will be: Laura Sacco.
SUPPORT (forums)
Answering a question in the forum is one of the quickest and easiest ways to start contributing to WordPress. Each of us knows the answer to something! Here you can view currently open tickets on the forum, learn best practices for responding, and discuss improvements to support processes.
Do you use WordPress or have you managed websites before? Then there’s definitely a question in the forum you already know how to answer! The Support group is waiting for you.
Some of the group’s activities include:
- answering questions posted on the forum, helping people who are having trouble with their WordPress installation;
- whenever possible, providing the knowledge and tools to help users solve issues on their own;
- flagging topics to moderators where the forum rules aren’t being followed;
- ensuring sensitive information such as email addresses and credentials are not shared;
- addressing questions or issues when each new major or minor WordPress release ships, or when major features like Site Health or the block editor (aka Gutenberg) are introduced;
- attempting to reproduce users’ issues locally;
- opening a ticket when a reproducible WordPress bug is identified.
The table lead will be: Gloria Liuni.
TRAINING
The WordPress Training team helps people learn to use, extend, and contribute to WordPress through both synchronous and asynchronous learning on the learn.wordpress.org platform.
Curious about the Training team? Want to know how learn.wordpress.org works? Want to help people learn by lowering language barriers? Then the Training team is for you—and it’s waiting for you!
Some of the group’s activities include:
- reviewing and approving content to be published on learn.wordpress.org;
- managing the content on learn.wordpress.org;
- localizing content that’s already published;
- running an online workshop;
- recording a course.
The table lead will be: Margherita Pelonara.
